How to Plan a Safe First Date (Complete Checklist)
A safe first date is a prepared first date. This checklist covers everything from pre-date verification to post-date debrief.
Before the Date
Complete before leaving:
- •Verify their identity — at minimum reverse image search + video call
- •Tell your safety person — name, photo, venue, time, check-in schedule
- •Share live location — activate before leaving
- •Arrange own transport — your car or pre-loaded rideshare
- •Check phone — fully charged, rideshare loaded, emergency contacts saved
- •Set boundaries — drink limit, time limit, information limits
- •Prepare exit — excuse ready, code word active
During the Date
Maintain awareness:
- •Do they match their profile?
- •Are your boundaries being respected?
- •How do they treat service staff?
- •Is your gut comfortable?
- •Are they pushing alcohol?
After the Date
Debrief while observations are fresh: boundaries respected? Profile matched? Anything uncomfortable? Would you feel safe alone with them?
