What to Do If a Date Goes Wrong

If You Are Uncomfortable
You can leave. Right now. You do not owe an explanation.
- •Text your code word to your safety person — they will call with a fake emergency
- •Say: 'Something came up, I need to go' — leave immediately
- •Go to venue staff if you need help — many have protocols for this
- •Call your rideshare or go to your car
- •Text your safety person that you are safe once you leave
If You Feel Unsafe
Escalate immediately:
- •Go to venue staff and say: 'I do not feel safe. Can you help me?'
- •Call your safety person
- •Call 911 if you feel in immediate danger
- •Do not go to your car alone in an isolated area — ask staff to walk you out
After the Date
Report concerning behavior to the dating app. If laws were broken, file a police report. Talk to someone you trust. You are not overreacting — trust your experience.
